Happiness is not a state, its an attitude

This is one of my best experiences I had while I was travelling on a train.
Next to me were a couple, with a 12-14 year old son suffering from some mental disorder. The kid was busy playing in his own world, telling some random things every now and then.
I kind of felt sad for his state, and sad for his parents too. It seemed like he was the only child for them. I thought of showing some empathy to them and asked them if he is suffering from this since birth. His father was like "why do you call it suffering? I think he is in a better state than all of us".
I could not understand that and asked him to elaborate. His father asked me to observe him carefully for sometime and then tell what I feel.
I said he is playing in his own world and is unaware of what's happening outside.
Then the father replied, "So, you consider that as a boon or a bane? From his birth, we have always seen him this way. He is able to find infinite happiness in his own world, never seen him cry unless we bother him to eat/drink/sleep. I consider that he is living a much more peaceful and happier life than all the humans on earth, and that makes me feel contented"
And that day, I decided.
Happiness is not a state, its an attitude!
Its what we choose to see.

Funnies Cricket Commentaries

Dravid: I was just trying to figure out how many overs I gave to Tendulkar and Ganguly (in 2007). Maybe I under bowled
Ganguly there, but Sachin had more Test wickets.
Ganguly: He (Dravid) always did that.
Bhogle: Tendulkar has more Test wickets than Ganguly.
Ganguly: That’s because he (Tendulkar) bowled half his overs on turning pitches in India.
Bhogle: I like how you (Ganguly) are sticking to your territory.
Ganguly: Those turning pitches on day 5 in India. Those dust bowls. I wish I knew how to bowl a little bit of spin.
That’s on flat batting pitches. On good pitches where you needed skill, look at the economy (2.3 rpo in 2007). I did the perfect 5th bowler’s job.
Dravid: Sanjay Manjekar made a really good point in the commentary box. If Ganguly had been a yard quicker and just a little bit fitter, he would have been a match-winner.
Ganguly: I wish I was Prime Minister of India. I could have done a whole lot of things.
Bhogle: I almost feel like not getting into this conversation. I’m getting away, this is some serious sledging. Come on Rahul, don’t be a good boy here.
Ganguly: Ask Rahul Dravid. When he won the toss at Trent Bridge in 2007 in our famous Test series win, England were going at almost 6 an over who did he fall back to?
Dravid: I’m not denying that. I’m absolutely not denying that. I just made the point that if Ganguly didn’t get tired after 5-6 overs, I would have bowled him much longer spells.
Ganguly: I would request the production team to get the spell out and we need a judgement here.
Dravid: Don’t forget the speeds as well.
Ganguly: I bowled 10 overs on the trot for 1/15. I’ve seen biased people, but I’ve not seen as much.
Bhogle: One thing you got to admit Rahul, he (Ganguly) does know his numbers.
Dravid: I’ve never doubted that. His numbers and the numbers of any left-handed batsman in the world, Sourav knows. Ganguly: He (Dravid) must have been happy that he had a player with intensity in his team. A player who cared for the numbers and the game. That’s what you look for as a captain.
Bhogle: I think there’s a reason he (Dravid) under bowled you (Ganguly). As a captain, you made him keep wickets.
Dravid: No Bhogle, don’t needle.
Ganguly: He (Dravid) did a job for the team and I desperately needed him to do that. We became a better team after that.

Boys will be boys

One of my friends during school was head over heels in love with a girl. After pursuing her unsuccessfully for about 6 months, he decided to write her a letter.
Starting with "My dearest Mansi", he went on to write 3 full pages, both sides of an A4 sheet. He poured the entire contents of his heart out on the paper.
His mother meanwhile entered the room and saw what was happening. Out of concern for her son, she asked him, "Are you sure this is the girl you want spend your whole life with?"
He thought for a while, struck off the very first line of the letter and wrote, "My dearest Neha!"

Heartwarming stories

A lovely little girl was holding two apples in her hands. Her mom came in and softly asked her little daughter with a smile, "My sweetie, could you give your mom one of your two apples?"
The girl looked up at her mom for some seconds, then she suddenly took a quick bite on one apple, and then quickly on the other.
The mom felt the smile on her face freeze. She tried hard not to reveal her disappointment. Then the little girl handed one of her bitten apples to her mom, and said, "Mommy, here you are. This is the sweeter one."

Mom and Her greatness(Limitless)

Dad to Mom: For the wedding we needed to attend in the evening, we would go along with a friend of mine. He got two vacant seats in the car.
Mom: Ok, I will be ready in time.
(She planned her day accordingly, takes her time in getting ready and just before she was ready to change in the sari for wedding I walked up to her and enquired)
Me: Are you guys going to the same resort that people say is awesome and has so many cool facilities?
Mom: Yeah, you want to come along?
Me: Nah, just enquiring. Anyway only 2 of us could go ...so no problems.
Mom: Ok
(I went out looking for friends to play)
After 10 mins dad came rushing to me: Why are you not getting ready? Your mom doesn't feel like going.. I think she is not feeling well. She said I should take you instead. Hurry up!! We gotta leave in 20 min.
That was probably the first time, a 10 year old had understood what really had happened there. God knows how many times such a thing would have happened before which I didn’t even realize. Also that was the first time I could not help but shed tears for that unconditional love that a mother has!!

Happy Mother's Day

A son took his old mother to a restaurant for an evening dinner. Mother being very old and weak, while eating, dropped food on her skirt. Others diners watched her in disgust while her son was calm.
After she finished eating, her son who was not at all embarrassed, quietly took her to the wash room, wiped the food particles, removed the stains, combed her hair and fitted her spectacles firmly. When they came out, the entire restaurant was watching them in dead silence, not able to grasp how someone could embarrass themselves publicly like that.
The son settled the bill and started walking out with his mother.
At that time, an old man amongst the diners called out to the son and asked him, "Don't you think you have left something behind?".
The son replied, "No sir, I haven't".
The old man retorted, "Yes, you have! You left a lesson for every son and hope for every mother".
The restaurant went silent.

Second Chance

Second chance: It was their anniversary, and Aisha was waiting for her husband Rajiv to show up.
Things had changed since their marriage, the once cute couple couldn't-live-without-each-other had turned bitter. Fighting over every little things, both didn't like the way things had changed.
Aisha was waiting to see if Rajiv remembered it was their anniversary!
Just as the door bell rang she ran to find her husband wet and smiling with a bunch of flowers in his hand.
The two started re-living the old days. Making up for fights, then was d plan for champagne, light music And it was raining outside! It was perfect.
But the moment paused when the phone in the bedroom rang. Aisha went to pick it up and it was a man. "Hello ma'am I'm calling from the police station. Is this Mr Rajiv Mehra's number?" "Yes it is!" "I'm sorry ma'am; but there was an accident and a man died.
We got this number from his wallet; we need you to come and identify his body." Aisha's heart sank.!!! She was shocked! But my husband is here with me?" "Sorry ma'am, but the incident took place at 2 pm, when he was boarding the train."
Aisha was about to lose her conscience. How could this happen?! She had heard about the soul of the person coming to meet a loved one before it leaves! She ran into the other room.
He was not there. It was true! He had left her for good!! Oh God she would have died for another chance to mend every little fight! She rolled on the floor in pain. She lost her chance! Forever!
Suddenly there was a noise from the bathroom, the door opened and Rajiv came out and said "Darling, I forgot to tell you my wallet got stolen today". LIFE MIGHT NOT GIVE YOU A SECOND CHANCE. SO NEVER WASTE A MOMENT WHEN YOU CAN STILL MAKE UP. No one is promised tomorrow. Have a wonderful Life with no regrets!

Best Train Conversation from Quora

I was travelling in a train to goa. It was around 8 Pm. I was sleeping in the upper berth. There came the transgender people and all my friends were a bit nervous and tensed too. It is mostly seen in local trains as they behave too bad when people reject to give them money(change of 2,3 Rs). I didn't want to get into trouble either. I pretended to be asleep and one of my friends gave 10 Rs and said it's from all of us. But my other friend wanted to make some fun and called that person loudly saying "one is on the upper couch from whom you didn't ask money." They thought it's funny because, I neither had change nor did I have 10 Rs note in my purse. Moreover it was in my bag which was under the seat. I was cursing my friend about this and that person was laughing and stood in front of me. I finally managed to give her/him Rs 5 which I found in my bag which was there luckily in some pocket. Weird thing was, first time in my life I didn't feel nervous nor afraid of those people. It may be because I had a small conversation while I was searching my bag. I just went near the door after that. After around 10 min, that person came from the other side. I was sitting near the door, looking out. I looked back and saw her(The person was dressed like a lady.I'll so call that person "her") and don't know why I replied when she said "hi". I just stood and started the conversation. I asked " why do you people do this begging in train? Its not even begging. You people demand money." She answered with a smile: " Most of us are uneducated and we'll never find a job and are abandoned by our family. We don't have a choice." I got a little curious and so asked: "Abandoned by family? Do you know who your parents are? " She: I know who they are. At least they put me in some Anathashram and were not like others, some who were left on streets. Me: They visit you sometime? She : No. Only my brother visits sometimes in few lonely places. Most of the times, because he needs some money. Me: Why can't you start a business of your own? Guess you make a lot of money here. She: No. We all work together. We have to share it among ourselves. Moreover we need to give a large share to one who's in charge of the area. I was surprised to hear they had a leader too! Me: Oh okay. Still you can start some small business like a tea shop or something right? She: ya guess I can. I never actually thought of that. It might work. Me: Hmmm. So how will your life be? I mean, you don't have family and no true friends. So what to you hold onto in your life? She: I don't know of others. I take care of few children who are like me and so are abandoned by their family and left in streets. I find my happiness there. They are unaware of why people look at them differently and children of their age are not let to play with them. I play with them, take them to movies sometimes. It's all I have in my life. I was ashamed of myself for being one among this society which show sympathy for people who are handicapped, who suffer from diseases and even people who comes of a jail for doing horrible things in life but not for these who are left with no other option but to humiliate themselves and suffer for the mistake of a gene. Society which has forgotten these people exist!! But she's helping these children. No matter what she does, I still found her to be a true human. While I was thinking, a man passed who sells puri in the train. (Puri is a like a chaat prepared from paddy.) She called him and asked for two plates. I told "No thanks. I don't want one" She replied " It's ok brother. I know you don't have change. I'll buy one for you." I didn't say anything but said thanks after I finished eating. I was about to leave when she told "Thank you. Most of them won't talk to us too." I said: " I was one of them who didn't talk to you people and from now on, I won't be. " She smiled and replied: I am thinking of starting a small tea shop. It's not a bad idea either, but you must promise to be the first customer. I replied: I'll be the one customer who will also bring my friends convincing them that they will have the best tea of their life. Hope I won't have to lie to them. She just smiled. I left a few steps and turned back and went to her and asked "Your number? I'll know when you start your shop right?" She gave her number and took mine. It's been a month. I received a call yesterday. She asked if I still remember her. I told I am still waiting to bring my friends. She said I am gathering money and she wanted to keep that promise of making the best tea too. She talked for few minutes. I sensed a feeling of happiness in her. After the call, I was the one who felt happy. I thought I now have one true friend added to my group. And now, I am waiting for that call which says "Remember me bro? It's time you bring your friends :)"

Interesting IIT JEE Story

During the IIT JEE Mains 2005, the question papers were being given out to the candidates when another candidate, running late, entered the hall and sat at his table. As he settled in, visibly shaken, he asked something to the student in front of him who already had his question paper. The exam has not yet started. The candidate in front probably just turned back and answered. A invigilator saw that and started shouting. He asked the candidate who "answered" to stand up and leave the hall as he was "cheating" (!!!!). There was stun silence in the exam hall as almost half of the hall knew who was being asked to leave. The accused kept saying that he was not cheating and just turned back but the invigilator was relentless almost bringing the boy to tears. My heart was sinking to see this because I knew that the person in question would never do anything like this. The drama continued for 3-4 mins but eventually the invigilator let him give the exam. The accused was Piyush Srivastava, IITJEE 2005 AIR 1. Sources-Quora
